Azaz Collection
In the Spring of this year, Pippa began her first exploration of hand-blown glass jewellery with the master artisan Mohammad Twam. Pippa met Twam through Turquoise Mountain - an arts charity set up to support artisans that are preserving traditional crafts – and travelled to the village of Jaba’ in Palestine to spend some time in his workshop, where she was spellbound by his work. Twam is a master of his craft, an artist who has been working in his field for nearly 40 years.
In collaboration with Twam, we created the Azaz collection – ‘azaz’ means ‘glass’ in local Palestinian dialect - a stunning collection of hand-blown glass pieces in a rainbow of translucent colours. The Azaz collection ranges from single-bead pendants to full beaded bracelets and necklaces, with a twinkling of hand-blown glass earrings. Thick glass beads in tones of teal, amber, and rose were inspired by ancient stone beads that have been worn, handled, and loved for centuries; altering the shape of the bead over time.
The Azaz collection of organic glass pieces feels both ancient and modern, pendants and clusters of bean, seed and pod shapes, strings of uneven beads soft and comforting to the touch, bracelets like strings of worry beads, and earrings like coloured globules. We are very proud to partner with the talented Mohammad Twam and his family and to work with this beautiful craft.
