18kt Gold Vermeil PSTM Afghanistan Meena Lapis Beaded Necklace

The Meena collection is named for Meena Keshwar Kamal, an Afghan political activist and founder of the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan in 1977. Meena fought for women’s rights, democracy, and social justice under extremely dangerous conditions; her legacy continues through RAWA’s ongoing work. 

In the Meena collection, we have used beautiful Afghan lapis, leaving the stone rough to keep its mountain power, and set it in gold vermeil. We have made uneven, worn beads, giving a very human and humble addition inspired by prayer and worry beads. For millennia, humans have run their fingers through beads, shaping them with emotion.
