Symbols - Dove of Peace
The dove is a symbol I have used over and over again in the jewellery I make for years. As a bird, they’re exquisitely beautiful – doves pair for life. If we look at the history, the symbolism, and the relationship with humans and culture, it goes back thousands of years. I love that the dove is part of all religions: Judaism, Islam, Christianity; we have Noah and his dove, and doves mentioned in Gilgamesh, Ishtar, the Mesopotamian goddess who loved doves. Doves clearly have a profound relationship with us. I love the symbolism of freedom, love, peace, and wisdom – what could be more important? We have a selection of dove pieces available. There is a dove that is based on the Matisse dove and the doves in ‘Madeleine in Paris’, which I love. Our large lapis dove is based on a brass dove I saw a boy in Uzbekistan wearing – our version is made in Afghanistan, a country that dearly knows the value of peace. We have a small rainbow moonstone dove that feels very ethereal – a flash of blue as it dashes across the sky.
